With a new cohort due to start in November, we spoke to newly qualified Dental Nurse Mr Wilson to get an insight into what it’s like to face a career change after your formative years.

Harriet Ellis(HE): “What was your job prior to joining the course?”
Mr Wilson: “Inventory Clerk”

HE: “What concerns did you have about changing career?”
Mr Wilson: “I was not sure how I would cope with the exams”

HE: “How quickly did you find a placement?”
Mr Wilson: “Around 2 months from enrolling”

HE: “How did you find your tutor support and the support from Customer service?”
Mr Wilson: “The tutor support was okay and Customer Service was good.”

HE: “Is there any part of the profession that you found difficult to cope with?”
Mr Wilson: “Becoming confident with working in the surgery. It took a while.”

HE: “How did you overcome the difficulty? ”
Mr Wilson: “Taking advice from dentists and experienced nurses and persevering. Not giving up.”

HE: “How do you feel looking back on your previous career now that you’ve passed?”
Mr Wilson: “ My Previous career was not as fulfilling as dental nursing.”

HE: “Where are you looking to take your career in the future?”
Mr Wilson: “To become a specialist nurse and go private.”

We think Mr Wilson is fantastic inspiration for anyone looking to retrain and those already working through a training course.
