scope of award

The certificate in Dental Radiography is a qualification suitable for dental nurses who are required to operate X-ray equipment under the direction of a dentist.
Dental Nurses, who are directly involved in taken X- rays, should be trained to the highest level to ensure that the radiographs produced are of optimum quality and that they are taken with the minimum possible radiation dose to patients and staff.

Syllabus

The curriculum for the Certificate in Dental Radiography is approved by NEBDN and in accordance with British Society of Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology, which reflects the theoretical knowledge and practical skills that a dental nurse involved in taken X-rays needs to develop in order to comply with the legislation.

how to achieve the qualification

- Needs 80% of attendance
- Successful completion of a record of experience which must be completed by you and your supervising dentist.
- Pass a negatively marked Multiple Choice examination
Note that candidates must be able to show competence in taking of a minimum of 50 radiographs taken in your workplace to include at least: 10 dental panoramic radiographs, 10 pairs of bitewing radiographs, 20 paralleling technique periapical radiographs. The remainder should include a minimum of 2 of each of the following: bisected angle technique periapical, occlusal views and cephalometric lateral skull views. Three case studies to be completed, relating to the taking of a dental panoramic, a bitewing and paralleling technique periapical radiograph.

Examinations dates and format

The written examination is available in June and December each year throughout the UK. It consists of a negatively-marked multiple choice question paper which candidates are allowed one hour to complete. Applications must be submitted to NEBDN the Record of Experience by 20 of April for the June examination and 20 October for the December examination. Applications forms by the 1 May and 1 November in order to ensure a place.

Currently he is doing Master in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology at King’s College University. Dr. Greco is also Member of British Society of Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology and Abstractor of Evidence Based Dentistry - BDA.
