With the Dental Nursing examination results coming through this month we spoke to newly qualified Dental Nurse Garth W to get an insight into what it’s like to face a career change after your formative years.
Harriet Ellis(HE): “What was your job prior to joining the course?”
Garth: “My previous job I was a HGV mechanic for over 30 years”
HE: “What concerns did you have about changing career?”
Garth: “I was not sure if I would be able to get through all the studying and enjoy the change of career”
HE: “How quickly did you find a placement?”
Garth: “I had secured a job before I even ended my employment where I had worked for 22 years. Even so it was a big decision to change career at 49 years old”
HE: “How did you find your tutor support and the support from Customer service?”
Garth: “The support I received from Harriet Ellis was excellent”
HE: “How do you feel looking back on your previous career now that you’ve passed?”
Garth: “I enjoyed my previous career but felt I needed a challenge and am pleased I made the change but it was not easy and took a lot of determination and hard work and dedication”
HE: “Where are you looking to take your career in the future?”
Garth: “I have no plans at the moment but might like to study and become an oral health educator”
Garth: “Many thanks to all at Harriet Ellis for your help and support through my training”
You’re very welcome, Garth. We’re happy that we were able to provide you with the opportunity to make such a positive change and are so happy to see you succeed!
We think Garth is fantastic inspiration for anyone looking to retrain and those already working through a training course.
